Woodlea's Sporting Involvement - 2014 / 15

Sporting Achievements 2014/15

Children from Woodlea have participated in the full programme of events from the South Ribble Sports Partnership. Children have been selected to represent the school in a whole range of sporting activities.

Competed in the Yr 5 & 6 Tag Rugby competition. Qualified from the area tournament to play in the area finals. Narrowly missed out losing in extra time in the semi-finals. Played in the inaugural Tag Rugby Central Venue League.

Competed in the yr 3 & 4 mini-tennis tournament at South Ribble Tennis Centre.

Competed in the Central Venue Football League. Entering 2 teams, an A & B team, and are recognised in the Sainsbury’s School Games Mark Award.

Competed in the Yr 3 & 4 and Yr 5 & 6 South Ribble Sports Hall Athletics competition. Yr 5 & 6 qualified for the Area Finals. Narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Lancashire Youth Games. The team were praised by other schools and officials for their sportsmanship and exemplary behaviour.

Finished 2nd overall and awarded a silver medal and an engraved plaque for the school in the Leyland Swimming Gala.

Competed in the yr3&4 and the yr 5 & 6 mixed Kwik Cricket tournaments in Penwortham and Leyland.

Only school in the North West that runs an after school squash club in conjunction with the local authority and an England Squash Area Manager.

Competed against a local high school in friendly fixtures and assisted with an umpiring official’s course. Qualified for the Area finals after finishing League winners in the South Ribble tournament. Finished League winners in the area finals but losing in the semi-finals.


Cross Country
Woodlea entered 16 children in the South Ribble Cross Country Finals at Wellfield. The level of interest from children and parents has led to an after school running club.
