Welcome to Chimps.
Chimps (6C) are taught by Mr Payne and supported by Mrs Stableford.
This half term (Spring 2) we will be studying the events surrounding and leading up to the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
To inspire us, we will be visiting Clitheroe Castle (which was built by the Normans following their invasion). Whilst there, we will be: acting out the story behind the main events leading up to the battle; examining weapons and armour from the period; investigating the offensive / defensive features of the castle and learning how a Motte and bailey castle was built.
In English we will be further developing our understanding of the period by writing non-fiction texts which explain how William won the battle and also give instructions for how to build a Motte and Bailey castle.
In Maths, we will be building on our work done so far on number and develop our skills in reasoning. We will look at different approaches to solving reasoning problems.
In Science, we are learning about how all vertebrate animals are classified into the groups of mammal, fish, bird, reptile and amphibian.
In Art we will be developing our skills in relief printing to produce designs inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry.
Science Week 11th-15th February 2019
After our visit from Adrian Bowden and his fantastic science show, we set about finding out more about circuits. We learnt how to represent circuits using symbols - so that they could be understood by anyone - then investigated the effect of adding extra bulbs / cells to a simple circuit and explored the benefits of parallel vs series circuits. Using this knowledge we then worked on designing and building a burglar alarm with both light and sound, that could still work if one of the components failed, and added a home-made pressure pad switch.
Recently we have used 'Garage band' to create our own musical compositions inspired by British musicians. We then used the ipads to script and shoot our own music videos making sure that we considered the different types of shots that we could use.
