Welcome to Chimps.
Chimps (6C) are taught by Mr Payne and supported by Mrs Stableford.
This half term our topic is 'Survival'. We will be basing much of our learning on the book 'Running Wild' by Michael Morpurgo.
In English, we will be writing adventure stories about characters surviving a number of different possible natural disasters. We will also be writing balanced arguments about issues raised in the book.
In Maths, we are developing our understanding of numbers and the number system and applying our learning in context.
In Science, we are learning about how animals are adapted to survive in their habitats. We will be extending our learning with a trip to Brockholes Nature Reserve to examine pond creatures and make observations of their adaptations.
In Geography, we will be studying the physical and human geography of Indonesia (where 'Running Wild' is set).
In Art, we are developing our skills in painting and drawing - using colour mixing and observational drawing to make close-up studies of the dense pumpkin undergrowth in our garden area.
Endangered Animal Fundraiser.
All classes at Woodlea are named after endangered animals. each year we have a fundraising activity so that we can sponsor an endangered animal. This year the fundraiser involved Mr Payne having wet sponges thrown at him by the class. Some of the children got a little too into it and staff also - for some reason, Mr Prior (our Deputy Head) appeared to lend the children a hand.
