Summer Term

In our final term as Year 5, we will be studying The Amazon Rainforest, the Mayan people and life cycles of plants and animals. In Summer 1, our English work will be based on the book A Journey to the River Sea, a text based in The Amazon Rainforest.  In Maths we will be looking at Geometry, Position and Movement and Measurements. As our swimming lessons have now finished, we will have a school based PE lesson, this will be on a Tuesday afternoon and we will continue with UK Military School on Thursday afternoons.

Homework will continue to be handed out on a Friday, to be completed by the following Friday.  Please check SeeSaw and this class page each week.

Thank you

Library Visit

We have been lucky enough to be able to visit Leyland Library again. It was fantastic, being able to browse through the books and choose one to bring away and read.

Summer 1

What a fantastic half term we have had.  To begin our SCIENCE topic on Living Things, we dissected a flower, identified each part and researched to find their role.

UK Military School

We have continued our work with UK Military School @UKMilSchool. We have worked on team work, determination and perseverance.

End of Spring Term

What a fantastic term we have had. We have packed so much learning into such a short space of time.  Our main English unit, based on an amazing book called The Invention of Hugo Cabret, has had us hooked and we have produced some fantastic descriptive writing from this.

Our maths work on fractions, decimals and percentages has presented us with many challenges but with determination and perseverance we have overcome them.

Spring Term in Leopards.

Welcome to Spring Term in Leopard class.

Leopards will be taught by Mrs Strickland for the rest of the year and she will be supported by Mrs Stableford.

In English this half term, we're learning about Science Fiction Stories. The children will be reading and analysing different Sci-Fi texts with the aim of writing their very own.

In our Maths, we are using the Maths No Problem scheme of work and will be working on fractions on our return.

Our wider curriculum will follow on from the Autumn term on Anglo-Saxon England with a study of the events surrounding the end of AngloSaxon rule and the beginning of the Norman period in 1066. We will consider the impact that this has had upon our culture today.

We are very lucky to have swimming this year, this will take place on a Monday afternoon, our PE day is Wednesday. Outdoor PE Kit is recommended as the weather turns colder.

Children must read at home a minimum of four times within a week, this can include Reading Plus. Books will go home on a Friday and must be returned on the following Friday. Reading records must be signed by an adult.
