Home learning

Despite us not being in school, Tigers have continued to keep their hard work going at home. With the home learning tasks, children have been completing work linked to what we would have been doing in school. This has included research tasks about China, Roman Gods, rivers of the world and a research task about a specific river.

The effort and commitment that has gone into these tasks have absolutely blown me away and I am immensely proud of the pieces of work that have been completed. Please take a look at what has been created:

Homework

Online homework will be set and children will have a week to complete it. There will be Mathletics, TT Rockstars and Spelling Shed. Children will need to stay in and complete homework if it is not completed. If children do not have access to the internet at home, I will be in on Tuesday lunchtimes for them to complete it or there is a homework club on a Thursday after school. This homework is in conjunction with the four reads expected during the week - please ensure that reading records are signed as we keep track in school.

Mindfulness

This term we have been lucky to have Ms Redmond coming in every Thursday to teach us mindfulness. It has been very interesting and the children have learnt lots about their breathing and how we can use these skills not just in school but in all aspects of their lives.

Shang Dynasty Day

For our Shang Dynasty Day, we had visitors from The Confucius Institute at The University of Central Lancashire. They talked to the children about the different characters that they used in the Shang Dynasty era. This is very important as the Shang Dynasty were the first people in China who used writing. We learnt about different artefacts and a little bit about life in the Shang Dynasty. The children had a go at dressing up in clothing and playing the traditional BianZhong.

Welcome to Tiger Class

After a summer seemed to absolutely fly, it is great to be back with the children and they have hit the ground running. They have all made a fantastic start back, getting straight back into the routine needed for us to do some fantastic learning. Homework this year will be set on a Wednesday and is expected back on a Monday.

On Monday's the children will be going swimming, please ensure that they have their full kit otherwise they will be missing out. PE will be on Friday afternoon and their kits should be kept in school until the half/end of terms.

Children have to read a minimum of four times a week, please sign make sure that their reading record it signed so it can be monitored in school.

As I hope you all know from last year, if you have any problems or queries please come and speak to me.

I am looking forward to another exciting year!

Thank you for you continued support,

Mr Scott

Animal fundraiser

On Friday, Tigers raised money for the endangered animal fund in school. They played against each other in a close game of Kick-cricket. All the children enjoyed it. Thank you for bringing in your donations.

The Football Development Programme

Tiger's had the the The Football Development Programme in today, they deliver sessions that link football to the curriculum. Today the children were focusing on maths. After the maths session, the children had a practical football activity where they focused on dribbling skills and then played some small sided games.

Archaeological dig

As a starter to our Ancient Greek theme that we are covering in the Autumn term, the children took part in an archaeological dig in our school grounds. The children were on the hunt for artefacts from Ancient Greek times and used their tools to carefully extract the artefacts from the ground. It was a very muddy a fair, but the children seemed to thoroughly enjoy the afternoon. The following week, we looked in detail about what the artefacts were and what they might have been used for.

Greek Presentation Day

After lots of hard work and extensive planning, the children presented their performances to show what they had learnt about a specific area of Ancient Greece. It was fantastic to see the children take a real ownership of their own learning and to come up with their brilliant, informative and humorous shows. Thank you for your support providing costumes and coming to watch them perform.

Greek salad making

In the Design and Technology part of our curriculum this term, the children took part in Greek style food testing and then created their own Greek salads. The children learnt about the importance of health and safety when preparing food and how to use a knife safely. When preparing their salads, it was clear to see was definitely some future chefs in the class. The children all tasted their salads and despite a few not being fond of olives, they all enjoyed their afternoon.

End of term

What a whirlwind of a term! Just like that, it is Christmas already. Tiger class have been fantastic term. The children have worked fantastically hard. A few highlights have been our archaeological dig, the Greek presentations, reading some of the amazing writing that we have been doing and seeing the children develop their maths skills. Next term, swimming will continue from the first Monday back, please remember swimming kit.

Thank you to the children for all their hard work and for your continued support throughout this term, have a lovely Christmas break and I wish you all the best for the New Year.
