A very warm welcome to the Autumn Term in Year 6 at Woodlea Junior School!
This is a very special and exciting year, and we are thrilled to begin it together. Your class teacher this year is Mr McCracken, and working alongside him is our fantastic teaching assistant, Mrs Smith. We’re both looking forward to a term full of learning, discovery and fun!
Here’s a look at what we’ll be exploring this term:
🔢 Maths
We’re starting the year by building strong foundations in place value and mastering the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) with whole numbers.
📚 English
We’ll dive into one of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies – Macbeth – exploring its characters, themes and dramatic language.
🏰 History
In our history lessons, we’ll be stepping back in time to learn all about World War 1 – what caused it, how it affected people, and why it still matters today.
🌍 Geography
Our focus this term is mountains – how they’re formed, where they’re found, and what makes them such fascinating geographical features.
🕊️ Religious Education (RE)
We’ll be learning about both Christianity and Hinduism, looking at beliefs, practices, and how faith influences daily life.
💻 Computing
We begin with essential lessons in online safety, followed by an introduction to Scratch programming, where we’ll start creating our own interactive projects.
🎵 Music
Our music sessions will be based around the upbeat and inspiring song "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, exploring rhythm, pitch and performance.
🏉💃🤸 PE
This term in PE, we’ll be developing our skills in rugby league, dance, and gymnastics – learning to work as a team, move with control, and express ourselves through movement.
We can’t wait to get started and see all the amazing progress Year 6 will make this term. Let’s make it a memorable start to the year!
