Year 4 – Autumn Term Learning
English 📖
In English, we have been developing our writing and speaking skills through a range of exciting activities. We wrote magazine articles about the mysterious Loch Ness Monster, exploring sightings and legends. We also held a debate about school uniforms, learning how to express our opinions and justify our ideas. More recently, we have been exploring the traditional folktale King Midas, looking at its characters, events and moral.
Maths ✖️➗
In Maths, we have been developing our multiplication and division skills. We have been using different strategies to solve calculations, exploring times tables and making connections between multiplication and division. We have also been practising our reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Science 🌿🐾
In Science, we have been learning about animals and their habitats. We have explored how living things can be grouped and classified, investigated different habitats and considered how animals are adapted to their environments. We have also been learning about food chains and food webs, discovering how living things depend on one another for survival.
Geography 🌍
In Geography, we have been exploring Europe, developing our map-reading skills and locating different countries, cities and landmarks. We then focused on Italy, learning about its regions and major cities. Our case study has been Bologna, where we have researched its
location, culture, food, landmarks and lifestyle, comparing life in Bologna with our own local area.
We can't wait to share all of our learning and achievements with you throughout the term. Here's to a fantastic start to the year in Tiger Class!
Please ensure your child has the correct kit (red Woodlea t-shirt, plain black shorts and pumps). Outdoor kit is also encouraged (black tracksuit top, black tracksuit bottoms and trainers). PE kits will be kept in school until half term.
Updates, letters and work will be shared via your child's SeeSaw account. Details of how to access this can be found in the back of your child's reading record.
Homework will be set on a Friday to be completed by the following Friday. It will be set online, through SeeSaw. Homework Club will take place on a Wednesday after school until 4:15pm, where children will have the opportunity to access iPads and staff support. In addition, children must read at least 4 times per week and this should be a combination of books and Reading Plus. Books will go home on a Friday to be returned by the following Friday with reading records signed by an adult.
