Autumn Term Overview

In Autumn, Chimps will begin their exciting Year 6 journey. The year will begin with our spectacular Lakeside Residential on the shores of Windermere, with our partners at the UK military school, to set up their final year at Woodlea in the most spectacular fashion.

Following that, we will begin our curriculum in due course. In English, we will look at William Shakespeare and one of his most iconic works: Macbeth. We will write a biography of the famous bard's life, then retell the opening scene of his Scottish play in the form of narrative fiction, before progressing onto constructing a newspaper report based upon the pivotal moments of the play, where Macbeth murders King Duncan.  

Maths will follow the structure of three Maths No Problem lessons from Monday to Wednesday, followed by more specific reasoning practice on a Thursday and arithmetic work on a Friday. We will begin with place value, before moving onto four operations on whole numbers and a move into fractions and decimals in the build up to Christmas.

Within our wider curriculum, history will focus on the First World War and geography likewise with mountains. RE will see us exploring Christianity and Hinduism, and our science will deepen understanding of the natural world through classification and evolution and adaptation. In art, we will be using two tone printing, and we will sharpen our cooking skills in DT. PSHE will focus on British values and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, which will work alongside dance and cricket to begin the year in PE, alongside deepening our musical learning too.

Homework

Homework will be set from Friday to Friday, and this week consists of 2 Reading Pluses at home, 2 reads in reading books and 10 games of garage and studio on TT Rockstars, as well as the set list on Spelling Shed.
