Rhinos Class – Summer Term Update
This term, Year 4 Rhinos will be exploring a wide range of exciting learning opportunities across the curriculum.
In English, we will be developing our writing skills through adventure narratives, inspired by The Mousehole Cat. The children will explore setting descriptions, dialogue and emotive language to create engaging stories. Alongside this, we will be studying classic narrative poetry, identifying key features and discussing how poets use language to tell stories and create atmosphere.
In Maths, our focus will be on geometry, particularly position and movement. The children will develop their understanding of coordinates, translation and describing movement, whilst applying their reasoning skills to solve a range of challenges and problems.
Our Science topic this term is states of matter. Through practical investigations and observations, the children will explore the properties of solids, liquids and gases, as well as how materials can change state. This will help to develop their scientific thinking and enquiry skills.
In Geography, we will be learning about earthquakes, exploring what causes them, the effects they can have on communities and how people prepare for and respond to natural disasters. The children will be encouraged to think critically about how earthquakes affect lives around the world.
Across RE, Computing and PSHE, children will explore important questions about beliefs, values, safety and decision-making. In RE, we will focus on Christianity, discussing the question ‘What does love your neighbour really mean?’ and considering how kindness, respect and compassion can be shown in everyday life. In Computing, children will develop their data handling skills by collecting, organising and interpreting information, whilst in PSHE they will explore how to manage risk in different places and consider ways to make safe and responsible choices.
In PE, pupils will be developing their skills through outdoor adventure activities, improving teamwork, resilience and decision-making through a variety of practical challenges. This term, the children will also be starting their swimming lessons, where they will begin developing confidence and essential water safety and swimming skills.
We are looking forward to another exciting term of learning and cannot wait to see the enthusiasm and curiosity Year 4 Rhinos bring to these new topics!
