Rhinos Class – A Fantastic First Term in Year 4!

Miss Heathcote is the class teacher for this year, supported by Miss Pleace.

Rhinos Class have had a brilliant first term in Year 4, full of exciting learning, creativity and curiosity. The children have settled in wonderfully and shown fantastic enthusiasm across the curriculum. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been getting up to:

In English, the children studied The Story of King Midas and the Golden Touch and traditional folktales, exploring themes, morals and character choices. More recently, the children developed their speaking and writing skills through debates and discussion texts, confidently sharing and justifying their opinions.

Our European case study focused on Bologna, Italy. The children learned about the city’s location, landmarks, culture and food, comparing it to life in the UK. To complete the unit, they created colourful and informative tourist brochures, proudly showcasing their learning.

In Science, we began by learning about the human digestive system, understanding how food travels through the body. We then moved on to living animals and their habitats, where the children worked scientifically to observe and classify living things. The highlight of this unit was a hands-on pond dipping investigation.

PE lessons will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please ensure your child has the correct kit (red Woodlea t-shirt, plain black shorts and pumps). Outdoor kit is also encouraged (black tracksuit top, black tracksuit bottoms and trainers). PE kits will be kept in school until half term.

Updates, letters and work will be shared via your child's SeeSaw account. Details of how to access this can be found in the back of your child's reading record. We also have a class Twitter page, please follow us: @WoodleaRhinos

Homework will be set on a Friday to be completed by the following Friday. It will be set online, through SeeSaw. Homework Club will take place on a Wednesday after school until 4:15pm, where children will have the opportunity to access iPads and staff support. In addition, children must read at least 4 times per week and this should be a combination of books and Reading Plus. Books will go home on a Friday to be returned by the following Friday with reading records signed by an adult.
