Welcome to Tiger Class 2025-2026
What a great first half term in Tiger Class, we are amazed at how well the children have settled in. We can already tell this is going to be a brilliant year! Mrs Wilcock is the class teacher for this year, supported by Mrs Stableford and Mrs Beaumont.
This half term, in English we explored the story 'The Treasure of the Loch Ness Monster' by Lari Don. We worked hard to write our own adventure narratives. Then, we created magazine articles reporting information about the monster. During Autumn 2, we will be reading the story of 'King Midas' and writing our own folk tales with the theme 'be careful what you wish for'. After that, we will delve into debates. The children will participate in a classroom debate in preparation for writing their own debate texts.
For maths, we are following the Maths No Problem scheme of work and we began the year by looking at counting, place value, addition, subtraction and multiplication and division. During Autumn 2, we will continue working on multiplication and division. Mental maths will continue to take place daily and there will be a focus on times tables in preparation for our Multiplication Tables Check which will take place in June.
Our wider curriculum topic for this half term was Ancient Greece. During our history lessons, we looked at what life was like in Ancient Greece and how Greek society has impacted our daily life. During Autumn 2, in geography, we will be conducting a European study. We will be focusing on Italy and the city of Bologna.
PE lessons will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please ensure your child has the correct kit (red Woodlea t-shirt, plain black shorts and pumps). Outdoor kit is also encouraged (black tracksuit top, black tracksuit bottoms and trainers). PE kits will be kept in school until half term.
Updates, letters and work will be shared via your child's SeeSaw account. Details of how to access this can be found in the back of your child's reading record. We also have a class Twitter page, please follow us: @TigerClassWJS
Homework will be set on a Friday to be completed by the following Friday. It will be set online, through SeeSaw. Homework Club will take place on a Wednesday after school until 4:15pm, where children will have the opportunity to access iPads and staff support. In addition, children must read at least 4 times per week and this should be a combination of books and Reading Plus. Books will go home on a Friday to be returned by the following Friday with reading records signed by an adult.
