Welcome back to the Summer Term, I hope that you all had a good two week break. This is going to be a very busy term for us all here at Woodlea: we will be sending home regular updates on the events through our newsletters. Please note that up to date information can always be found on our website... www.woodleajuniors.co.uk
 
In addition to this we are very pleased to offer you a new App which you can download free of charge on all apple and android phones and other devices. This will enable us to inform you directly of updates and changes to our daily routines. Please download this App and help us improve our 'home-school' communication.

There will be some staff changes this term following Mrs Bird's retirement at Easter. Mrs Bird asked that I not inform you until after she had left as she didn't want a fuss! 5L will be taught Monday to Thursday by Mrs McKenna and on Fridays by Mrs Shorrocks for this half term. Mrs McKenna has a new job at a local school from this June so after half term 5L will be taught by Mrs Shorrocks full time until the end of term. To enable this to happen 3G will be taught by Mrs Younis full time till the end of the summer. Many thanks should go to Mrs Bird and Mrs McKenna for their hard work and dedication to our school and the children they have taught.

We will be interviewing this half term for a new Assistant Head to replace Mrs Shorrocks as she becomes our Headteacher in September. We will also be looking for an additional class teacher to replace Mrs Bird/ Mrs McKenna....busy times!
 
Please can I remind you that dinners now cost £2.20 a day, or £11 a week, payable in advance.
 
All school Uniform can now be bought at Delta Wool Shop on Stanifield Lane, Farington.
 
Well done to Daniel Giles 6C and his ‘ASD Charity Day on Friday 27^th March, we raised £199.60, with more to come from St Andrews Infants as they shared the day with us.

SCHOOL DINNERS – PRICE INCREASE 13^th APRIL 2015  
 
Here at Woodlea Junior School we have always been mindful of the cost to parents for their child’s school lunch.  We have not increased the cost of the school dinners for two years and have been advised by LCC that we need to charge more, in line with local schools to cover catering costs.  Please note that as of 13^th April 2015 school dinners will cost £2.20 per day, this equates to £11.00 per week.   May I remind you that school dinners should be paid on Monday for that week’s dinners.

The children in school learned a lot about the solar eclipse and watched in their class rooms this spectacular event. Four children had, at home, made their very own viewing instruments, which they used to view the eclipse safely outside.

On Tuesday 17^th March, Woodlea’s netball team were winners of the Leyland Area, Central Netball League. The children were children won all of their matches and have been invited to take part in the next stages of the competition on the 19^th May.  Mrs Leigh, who coaches the team was so proud of the netball team, they all showed fantastic sportsmanship along with being super ambassadors for the school. Parents and coaches of other school teams commented on our children’s attitude, behaviour and ability during the whole competition.
Thank you to the coaches and parents who supported the children throughout their matches.
Well done children, Woodlea are very proud of you.

Year 2 parents from St Andrews are invited to spend some time at Woodlea. The session times are 9am, 10.45am and 2pm. Letters will be sent out nearer the time to St Andrews parents.

From immediate effect Woodlea school uniform will be stocked at Delta Wool Shop in Farington.
There is a small amount of Fair Trade uniform in school, should you require this option.
We have sent home a price list for you to have a look at

Today in school has been a very special day celebrating all of our Mums, Aunties and Grandmas.
All these people were invited to a special celebration assembly. On entering school, they were greeted my one of our Prefects and presented with a single daffodil. During the assembly each class performed a poem, which they had written collaboratively. The songs which were sung also had a 'Mum' theme. There was one very moving song, which was by Adele, 'Make You Feel My Love', which had the lyrics changed to fit in to celebrate our Mums, Aunties and Grandmas.
All the children had the opportunity to invite these people to have lunch in school with them. Mrs Leggett had prepared two dishes, which everyone could choose from.
There were lots of comments from the adults who joined us during the day; about how the children performed their poems, the singing and the quality of the food served.
Thank you to everyone who was able to celebrate with the children today and please continue to support your children in all aspects of school life.
